A typical retro-fit replacement project that was anything but typical: When Binsky & Snyder Service was contracted to replace an antiquated cooling tower for a major downtown office high-rise, they faced several unique challenges.

The old cooling system was leaking and in desperate need of replacement. The client desired the removal and replacement of their cooling tower with a new energy efficient system in two days and only during off-business hours over the weekend. Enter the need to erect a large crane and place tractor trailers in and around tight city areas, as well as the extreme weather conditions during the replacement process, and Binsky Service rose to the occasion.

Taking into account the new cooling tower required a completely different configuration and a significant welding effort for installation, a well-managed plan and project team would be required.

An intricate solution was developed by Binsky Service that included details of exactly when and where everything would happen, down to the minute. The crane and trailers were in place prior to the weekend work. All welding equipment and tools were rigged to the roof ahead of time.

The Binsky Service project team managed the process like clockwork as the old tower was disconnected and removed for scrap, and the new tower was raised and installed.

Binsky Service met the challenge of the complexity and sensitivity of this project and seamlessly incorporated the new cooling tower into the customer’s physical plant. There was no lost time impact to the building operations or occupants.

The entire effort was completed and commissioned by start of business Monday morning.
